LCPS School Board: Members Celebrate as LCPS Sets Precedent to FOLLOWT1Ds

Watch as the Loudoun County, VA School Board and Office of Student Services celebrate lifting a barrier that has jeopardized T1D students’ safety and education.

Last week, they changed their stance on remote monitoring CGMs for students with T1D and agreed to use caregiver CGM follow apps. The district will purchase iPads, train staff, and use the follow apps- complying with Americans with Disabilities Act and US Department of Justice’s 2020 mandates that caregiver CGM follow apps are a reasonable accommodation schools should provide. This sets a precedent for other districts to uphold federal rights for T1D students nationwide.

When schools stay up to date on current standards of T1D management and embrace technologies like CGM monitoring apps, they ensure compliance with ADA law, keep kids in class more, and help make sure that students with T1D have an educational experience equal to their peers. It simplifies nurses’ work, aligns with the latest diabetes care standards, and is the right thing to do to keep our kids safe at school.
